Subject, Verb and Object

What is subject verb and object with examples? Subject + Verb + Object combine to make basic English sentences. "She drinks milk." Subject: who/what the sentence is about. Verb: What the subject does/is. Object: a person or thing that is affected by the action of a verb.

Today we are going to learn three very important and common English words from a grammatical perspective. We use them daily. We can’t even imagine expressing ourselves without these words. Therefore, they are very important for better language arts. I’m going to make them crystal clear that they will stick in your mind forever. So, let's learn and understand the relationship that exists among them.

In grammar, the subject is the person or thing doing the action. The verb is what is being done. The word “subject” is usually capitalized, but not always in all languages. In English, the subject is always capitalized if it has been used at the beginning of the sentence and the verb is never capitalized.

“Subject”, “Verb” and "Object" are the three words you will use most often to be specific about what is being done, by whom, and with whom. “Subject-verb-object” (SVO) is the standard format in which you use a verb before the object.

These three words have been selected collectively because they are interrelated, and understating this interrelationship among them will make us abundantly clear of their function in the grammatical context.

SUBJECT
The doer of the action in a sentence is called the subject, in other words, a subject is a word that does an activity in a sentence.

Explanation
It means that action comes out from the subject. Therefore, no subject means no action. If the subject is eliminated, the action (verb) vanishes on auto. Thinking over the whole universe, every action (verb) has a source from which it generates. That source is called the subject. Therefore, the subject is called the mother of action as it gives birth to action. So, we can say that subject is the source from where the action verb comes into being.

VERB
A verb is a word that denotes activity in a sentence or a verb is a word showing action (work) in a sentence. So, we can say the action of a sentence is called a verb.

Explanation
The activity of the subject is a verb. There is a super important function of a verb that has never been discussed by anyone. We know that noun is called a naming word because of its ability to name. A verb is also a naming word because it names an action. Therefore, a verb can be defined as a word that names an action just like a noun names a place, person, or thing. Each and every action that the subject does in a sentence is called the verb of the sentence.

OBJECT
An object is a word that receives an action in a sentence. It means anything in the sentence that takes on the effort itself, on which the action is done.

Explanation
In the English Language, what the subject does directly affects the object. For instance, the verb “eating” in the sentence “She is eating an apple” affects the object “apple” directly. We see an intact apple before the action of eating. When the action of "eating" is performed on the object “apple”, it breaks into pieces and goes into her stomach. This is how an object receives an action. The object takes an action on itself. Therefore, without an object, the subject can’t produce action. Let’s take another example. He drives a car. Now imagine driving without a car is like swimming without water. The subject “he” can’t do the action of “driving” without the object “car”.

That is why we have taken all these three words together in this article. They are interrelated with each other and each word has its own importance. If we look at the word "object", we see how important it is, because "object" is necessary for both words to function. Without an object, the subject can't produce an action. Therefore, subject and object keep the world going on but remember verb is the most important word of a sentence. We can't even imagine making a sentence without a verb.
